Hello all! My name is Gabrielle VanHouwe and I was an intern for the 7-12 Real Kids Real Food program in the spring of 2022.
This program is a fabulous opportunity for a vast audience. Betsy offers many areas of practical work from marketing and media to nutrition education. Personally, I was interested in mastering my nutrition education skills as I aim to be a clinical RDN; however, I know this is a great opportunity for many students studying various disciplines. In this program, I mastered client-centered learning for my target audience, all the while enjoying the community immersed in this program. The customers, staff, and co-workers were all very pleasant and focused on our mission.
Not only was I granted the opportunity to hone my nutrition education skills, this internship assisted my communication abilities. Often, I aided Betsy, the director, in generating mass emails for parents or the program she heads, Eat to Thrive. I feel very confident going into the professional setting with the preparation this program gave me. In all, I would recommend this program to anyone interested. I had a fabulous time, made great connections, and honed my professional skills.
